The Institute of Postgraduate Studies and Research (IPSR) serves as the central coordinating body for all postgraduate programmes at the university. It oversees the administration of postgraduate teaching and research, ensuring smooth coordination between faculties and effective management of all postgraduate-related matters.
Our responsibilities include managing admissions, student records, viva examinations, and postgraduate activities, as well as ensuring that programmes are effectively promoted and delivered. IPSR is committed to providing a well-structured, well-monitored, and high-quality postgraduate experience for every student.
IPSR also plays a key role in coordinating the university’s research and development initiatives. We establish links with funding agencies, manage research grants and contracts, and provide administrative support to researchers—including processing grant applications and overseeing research fund utilisation. IPSR also compiles and verifies research publications to enhance the university’s research capacity and output quality.
Since its establishment in 2004, IPSR has successfully managed postgraduate education, research activities, and research centres at UTAR. With the increasing number of postgraduate graduates and research outputs over the years, IPSR continues to contribute to UTAR’s growth as a leading centre of learning and research.
This unit serves as the central coordinating body for all postgraduate programmes offered by the Faculties. It facilitates programme administration including admissions, student and academic records, examinations, and postgraduate activities.
Providing administrative support for postgraduate studies is one of IPSR’s core functions and aligns with the requirements of the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), which mandates that universities maintain a dedicated entity to coordinate, plan, and administer all postgraduate programmes.
This unit plays a vital role in coordinating research projects and providing professional support for research activities across the university. It serves as a central resource for researchers, offering information on research-related requirements, publications, external events, and regulatory or legal guidelines.
To support the financial needs of research, the unit prioritises identifying and facilitating applications for external funding—including public, private, and international sources. Complementing these is the University Research Fund, designed to support young researchers in developing their expertise and capabilities.
